Catching Macondo and What’s Ahead: This Week in Music
I don’t know where the day went, but suddenly it’s 5:30, and those Sunday Scaries are creeping in. Instead of stressing about tomorrow’s meetings, I figured if I’m serious about this music thing, I should start typing. So, here we go!
First off, I made it out this weekend! With so many concerts happening, I figured I needed to get to at least one, so I headed out to Visalia on Saturday night to finally see Macondo. I missed the first half of their set, so I didn’t catch all of their originals, but the part I did see was a blast! They played some newer stuff and mixed in covers ranging from Spanish tunes that flooded the dancefloor, to The Black Keys and Sublime. I didn’t know what to expect going in, but I had a great time and even got to meet a few of the guys after the show. Next time, I promise I’ll show up on time! And if you want to catch Macondo live, they’ll be playing in Selma on October 11th. More details coming soon!

Now, here’s what’s happening this week:
Tuesday: Jazz Tuezdayz at The Lookout Room at Tioga wraps up September with performances by Saturn and the Stars and The Wes Will Quartet.
Saturday: There are two big shows to choose from:
Sour Milk Shop is hosting a benefit show for their neighbors, Spokeasy and The Labyrinth Art Collective, who were recently affected by a fire. This is the first in a series of three benefit shows that the shop is hosting, so if you can’t make this one, there’s more to come. Check out the flyer below for more details—or if you want to donate but can’t attend, you can send your support here.
If you’re in the mood to head up to North Fresno, there’s another great show happening—and it’s FREE! Full disclosure, I still need to do my homework on some of the bands, but Roman Around (who made it onto my playlist last week) will be there, so it should be a good time.
Sunday: Motel Drive is performing at Club One Casino. Describing themselves as “under the influence of punk & country roots with a shot of rock n’ roll,” they’re always a blast to see live. And, this one is FREE too—so no excuses!
That’s all I’ve got for this week! If you know of any other shows or events, tell your friends to send me their flyers, Instagram profiles, and music so I can listen and share with everyone.
Have a great week, and see you out there!
